About me
Ed Fletcher, Director and head of the Spinalaw team at Fletchers Solicitors has a unique insight into the needs of spinally injured people, having completely severed his spinal cord at T9/10 in 1999.
Following his accident Ed took a decision to dedicate his working life to fighting solely for the spinally injured.
Ed is on the recommended solicitors lists of both the Spinal Injuries Association and Headway, the national brain injury charity. Ed is a senior litigator member of APIL and past treasurer of the Merseyside SIA group.
Ed is chairman of the North- West Spinal Injuries Centre Patient Group and via a programme run by the charity 'Back-Up' mentors young people who have recently sustained spinal cord injury.
Ed is President of the Southport and Ormskirk Law Society.
Ed in his spare time rides an adapted trike, last year was a member of the Great Britain Para-Triathlon Squad and doesn’t keep his blog (http://www.paraplegicliving.com/) as up to date as he should do.
He has built up a team of expert lawyers around him who are not only experienced in handling such claims but who share in his commitment and dedication to fighting for the spinally injured.
We pride ourselves on our personalised approach, offering advice and support from the date of injury for life.

Notable Case
Tolley v Carr v Johnson V O’Callaghan 2010
I represented the Claimant Mr Tolley in this landmark case, the trial was heard before Mr Justice Hickinbottom at Chester Crown Court.
Mr Tolley sustained life changing injuries in a Road Traffic Accident on the November 2006. Mr Tolley went to assist a fellow motorist who had crashed on the M53, through Mr Tolley’s actions he managed to assist his fellow motorist from her predicament and to ensure the safety of other road users returned to the car to move it to a safe position, it was during this process the stranded car was hit in quick succession by two other cars.
The Defence Team for the Co Defendants believed there should have been a finding of contributory negligence against Mr Tolley for his actions of between 1/3rd -25%.
The Trial lasted for two days, Mr Tolley was represented by Mr Bill Braithwaite QC and Mr Jeremy Greenfield. Mr Hickinbottom found in Mr Tolley’s favour 100%.
