Our Maternity Training Grants Programme has been created to support maternity and neonatal professionals in developing their knowledge, skills and expertise, helping to strengthen care, improve safety and support positive outcomes for families.

Supporting learning that makes a difference

Continued professional development plays a vital role in maintaining and improving maternity and neonatal care. Specialist training, conferences and clinical learning opportunities enable professionals to deepen their expertise, share best practice and continually evolve the care they provide.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must be maternity or neonatal professionals currently working in England or Wales.

Eligible applicants include:

Midwives
Final year student midwives
Obstetricians
Obstetric trainees
Neonatal professionals
Maternity safety team members
Maternity support workers
Independent or private maternity professionals

Ineligible applicants include:

Professionals working outside maternity or neonatal care
Consultants outside maternity specialties
Nonclinical NHS staff
Applications for general leadership or management training not directly linked to maternity care

How funding can be utilised

Eligible funding considerations:

CPD accredited courses
Clinical skills training (e.g. CTG interpretation, PROMPT, fetal monitoring)
Patient safety conferences
Research or specialist conferences
Specialist training that improves maternity or neonatal outcomes
Training fees and essential travel or accommodation

Ineligible funding considerations:

Equipment purchase
Coaching unrelated to maternity care
Training not linked to improving maternity safety or outcomes
Postgraduate degrees or long-term academic programmes

How the application process works

Applications open on the 1st of each month
Applications close on the 25th of each month
Grants Panel reviews applications in the final week of the month
Decisions issued within 7 days of month end
Payments released within 10 working days of confirmation

You may submit more than one application, but only one award can be granted per person per calendar quarter.

Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility

1.1 Applicants must be maternity professionals currently working in England or Wales.

1.2 Applicants may submit one application per quarter.

1.3 Applications must be for training that directly benefits maternity or neonatal care.

2. Grant Value

2.1 Maximum of £300 per individual per month, subject to approval.

2.2 Individuals may only receive one successful award per quarter.

2.3 Multiple applications may be submitted, but only one per quarter can be funded.

3. Use of Funds

3.1 Funds must be used only for the training stated in the application.

3.2 Any unused funds must be returned.

3.3 Fletchers may request proof of attendance or receipts.

4. Decision Making

4.1 Decisions are made monthly by the Fletchers Grants Panel.

4.2 Decisions are final, and no appeals process is provided.

4.3 Applications received after the 25th roll into the following month.

5. Post-Award Requirements

5.1 Recipients agree to provide:

A short written reflection, OR
A 2-3 minute video snippet, OR
Participation in a future webinar/discussion

5.2 Content will be used to share learning across the maternity community (with approval).

6. Data & Privacy

6.1 Personal data will be processed in line with Fletchers’ Privacy Policy.

6.2 Applications may be anonymised for reporting purposes.

7. Publicity

7.1 Fletchers may announce recipients publicly (with consent).

7.2 Recipients may be contacted for future collaboration opportunities.

8. Withdrawal of Funding

8.1 Funding may be withdrawn if:

False information was supplied
The applicant fails to attend the training
The training is cancelled

9. Monthly Funding Rounds

9.1 Funding window opens on the 1st of every month.

9.2 Applications accepted on a rolling basis, with a deadline on the 25th of each month.

9.3 Review panel meets in the final week of the month.

9.4 Grant decisions issued within 7 days of month-end.

9.5 Payments released within 10 working days of award confirmation.

9.6 *Only eligible activities may be funded.
