56-year-old woman receives £750K after failed hip replacement surgery

In 2012, our client, a 56-year-old lorry driver, had suffered with pain in her right hip for several months. In May of that year, she was referred for investigation and an MRI of her pelvis found that she had advanced osteoarthritic changes.
On 11th February 2013, the client underwent a right total hip replacement, with the hope that it would ease the pain she was experiencing. However, following the surgery, the client suffered ongoing pain and lack of mobility.
Following multiple appointments and investigations, our client was told that the prosthesis used in her hip replacement surgery was oversized and she required revision surgery. The revision took place in June 2018.
The Case
Following the incident, we were approached by the client for legal representation, with Medical Negligence Solicitors, Francesca Paul and Amy Hughes taking on the case.
Due to the alleged negligence, our client’s hip was badly damaged, leaving her with impingement of the hip, where the hip and socket don’t fit together properly. She also suffered damage to the abductor muscles and subsequent necrosis – this resulted in weakness, pain, clicking and metallosis, where there is a build-up of metal debris in the body.
Unfortunately, our client’s injuries were permanent and could not be rectified with further surgical treatment. This meant that the client was unable to return to her work as a lorry driver.
The Case Outcome
Thanks to the hard work and diligence of our legal team, we were able to achieve a substantial compensation settlement for our client of £750,000, giving the client security for the future.
Medical Negligence Solicitor, Francesca Paul commented. She said:
“It was a pleasure to be instructed by Angela in this case. She suffered devastating injuries as a result of the negligence which had a huge impact on her life. The team strived to deliver the best possible result to ensure that Angela had a safe and secure future.”
In conclusion, the client added: “I suffered from a hip replacement that was very badly done by the NHS. I thought I would never win with something so big as the NHS, but using Fletchers Solicitors, I don’t think I could have been in safer hands. All the way through, Fletchers Solicitors have been fantastic. My case was also ongoing through covid but they still worked hard for me through that horrendous time. I can’t thank all concerned with my case enough. I had a dream of what amount I hoped for but never thought I would get to that amount. Fletchers Solicitors, through great negotiation skills, got me more than I dreamed of.”
