Vincent & Family’s Story

Vincent was two when his parents first noticed a problem with his hearing, but it took five long years for an assessment, which determined he was profoundly deaf.

Vincent’s parents were told he was difficult to test and there was nothing wrong with his hearing. But he now has support and can look forward to a positive future.

Case timeline

It was found that Vincent was profoundly deaf in both ears. Vincent received cochlear implants, which has helped significantly. However, due to the period between the problem being identified and the implants being fitted, Vincent missed out on years of sound input, affecting his speech and social development.

This was a complex case that was eventually settled in the family’s favour. Financial compensation was secured, taking into account the years of suffering Vincent had endured, and the long-term impact this had had on his development.

The compensation has allowed Vincent’s family to access specialist support for Vincent, including help from child and educational psychologists. Although he’ll always need assistance with some tasks, Vincent’s confidence has been boosted; he’s more sociable and is developing friendships for the first time.
