Coronation Street Star, Ben Price, Pledges Support to Local Brain Injury Charity

1st April 2014

Following his portrayal of Nick Tilsley and his turbulent year battling with a brain injury on Coronation Street, Headway Preston and Chorley are delighted to welcome Ben Price as a patron of the charity.

Sarah Green, brain injury solicitor at Fletchers and director of Headway Preston and Chorley has been working closely with Ben and the Coronation Street writers, as Ben was keen to play the role as accurately as possible and learn how brain injuries can affect the individual but also their families and friends.

In Coronation Street, Nick suffered extensive brain injury because of a car accident. When he came out of his coma he suffered from memory loss, fits of rage and extreme mood swings. The soap now depicts this character struggling with his home life as his erratic personality changes his life for the worse.

Ben says of the new appointment: “I am delighted to have been asked to be a patron of Headway Preston & Chorley. They have provided me with an invaluable insight into the effects of brain injuries. Their work forms an essential service to support brain injured individuals, their families and carers.”

It is estimated that there are over half a million people who have sustained brain injury and now live with permanent disability as a consequence, with the main causes being road traffic accidents, and falls or accidents. Headway provides a lifeline to those suffering from a brain injury – with support, information and advice.
