Our client, Jane* was determined not to let her injuries hold her back from pursuing her dream job and her inspirational story shows that challenges can be overcome and defeated. She suffered massive injuries, including multiple fractures to her pelvis and hip and a head injury, after being involved in a road traffic accident while riding her moped. An approaching driver failed to see her and cut across her path while attempting to turn into a side road, causing the collision.
The accident occurred at a crucial period in Jane’s life as she was due to apply to become a police officer, a role she had spent the previous five years working towards. The young professional had already been working as a Detention Officer within the police and had even completed voluntary work as a Special Constable. The accident couldn’t have come at a worse time because not only did it cause her to miss the application process, Jane was faced with the prospect that she may not regain sufficient fitness levels to be able to pass the police fitness test.
However, despite being seriously injured in the collision, Jane was determined not to give up on her dream. She approached Fletchers to take on her case for compensation and begin the road towards recovery and justice.
With Fletchers Solicitors behind her providing her with support and motivation, she was awarded interim payments, which made life much easier. The money she received meant Jane able to embark on intensive physiotherapy treatment with the support of a gym membership and a personal trainer, and was able to start rebuilding her strength and take significant steps towards recovery. Getting her career back on track started to change from a dream to a plan.
Fletchers continued to work with her and support her throughout the whole process and finally, settled the case, ensuring Jane was awarded a substantial sum to help her continue to improve her life, fitness and career aspirations.
After 10 months of support and training, Jane reapplied for the police and passed with flying colours, including the fitness test. She successfully started in her new role as a police officer on the 1st November 2013.
Jane said: “I can’t thank Fletchers enough for all their help. They’ve been amazing in helping me secure the funds needed to get my life back on track. Fletchers gave me the support to realise I could still achieve my goals and get my dream job.”
It’s fantastic to see that with support and training, made possible through the compensation she received, she was able to take back control of her life and achieve her career dreams of becoming a police officer. Here at Fletchers, we understand that whilst serious injury can be devastating, it doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dreams of a career.
