In 2018 we continued our support and sponsorship of British Racing Driver/ Ex Rallycross Champion, Graham Rumsey as he competed in the MX-5 Championship.

Graham traveled to Brands Hatch circuit in Dartford for Round 1 of the MX- 5 Championship.

The conditions proved difficult with a very damp and slippery track. Graham was also facing the challenge of competing in a new car on a new circuit. During the qualifying round, Graham chose a cautious approach and qualified in grid position 21 for the first race in the ‘B’ group.

The first race took place on the Saturday morning; Graham got some good heat into the tyres on the warm up lap and sat back on the grid, in position 21, awaiting the lights. He had a good start and a small gap opened on the inside seeing him gain a few places in to the notorious Paddock Hill bend, managing to avoid the carnage of the Druids and crossing over the line at the end of the first lap in 15th position.

Another couple of places were gained in the next few laps, but unfortunately a gap closed in on Graham, whilst coming out of Druids, which saw him spin out and having to re-join the circuit in last position. A steady few laps followed after that which meant he was able to finish the race in 15th position.

The second race took place later in the afternoon, with better weather conditions and the ground having dried. Graham started the race midfield and feeling a little more relaxed. Another good start from 15th on the grid saw Graham come into 11th place into the first corner. Whilst coming out of the Paddock Hill bend and travelling up the hill, four cars in front of Graham tangled and spun across the track. This meant Graham needed to take action to avoid losing the gained places, but survived without damage and finished the race in 16th position.

The final race took place on Sunday morning; thankfully the driving conditions improved and Graham once again had another great start to the race. He managed to gain a further four places and finished in 11th place. Overall a steady weekend for Graham.

grahams-carGraham commented on the weekend of racing:

A good weekend and lots learnt. I was too relaxed in qualifying and know that I could do more in the race, but as a 1 make series these cars are so close on the track with often less than 1 second per lap between first place and 25th.
