The expert team at Fletchers has built a reputation on going the extra mile to support clients who have suffered from birthing injuries so they can go on to live happy and fulfilling lives.
We recently helped our client Jamie Lewis successfully win a six figure sum after he was born with very limited use of his left arm following errors made by doctors during his birth.
Jamie was left with a permanent disability after doctors failed to act in time when he became stuck in the birth canal during a complicated delivery. The medical team at Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport were negligent in their actions, applying excessive force when trying to free him.
By failing to follow the correct protocols, the medical staff caused damage to the nerves in Jamie’s neck, which resulted in paralysis in his left arm and hand, known as Erb’s Palsy.
As a result of his injuries, Jamie had a tough childhood growing up with limited use in his arm. He was unable to play with other children, use his bicycle and the appearance of his arm also made him a target for bullying. Suspecting something was not right during the birth, Jamie’s mother approached Fletchers Solicitors to fight for compensation for Jamie and in February 2014 he was awarded a substantial amount.
The compensation secured for Jamie takes into account the extent of the injuries he suffered and his future needs, and will allow him to enjoy an optimistic future with his wife and two children.
Jamie’s case reminds us why it’s worthwhile seeking the right advice and support in times of adversity. Although birth injuries can be life changing, a positive future can still be had. Securing compensation can be integral to a client’s future needs, but it’s also important to remember that additional resources and support are available even after a settlement has been made. Here at Fletchers, we understand that getting your life back on track after medical negligence is an ongoing process, which is why we are with you every step of the way.
