Life and love after serious injury

20th June 2013

For too many, serious injury will mean the loss of mobility, independence and freedom. With the right support and experienced advice, however, it is possible to overcome adversity with striking positivity. The team at Fletchers has built a reputation on going the extra mile to help clients lead fulfilling and happy lives following injury.

Susan Clegg’s story is one which shows us that happiness is attainable even in significantly changed circumstances. Susan was a passenger on her partner’s motorcycle when a car turned in front of them illegally, causing the two vehicles to collide. Susan sustained catastrophic spinal injury, but defied the odds to make an incredible, if gradual recovery. She is now a paraplegic wheelchair user.

After the accident, Susan tasked Fletchers Solicitors with representing her case for compensation. Her legal team sought the help of relevant experts to project her future living costs, as well as discussing with Susan one-to-one her personal needs and aspirations. With Fletchers at the helm of legal proceedings, she was awarded a substantial sum. The settlement has meant Susan can afford basics like transport, mobility aids and adapted housing.

The damages awarded also allowed Susan to purchase a wheelchair-ready motorhome so she can now travel to warmer climates for respite from chronic pain when it is most needed. Impressively, the win has also seen Susan buy a special wheelchair accessible trike – she still enjoys those motorbike rides with her partner Steve.

Susan reminds us why it’s worthwhile seeking the right advice and support in times of adversity. Although accidents can be life changing, the effects can take a positive shape. Securing compensation can be integral to living a full and able life once more, but it’s also important to remember that additional resources and support are available even after a settlement has been made. Here at Fletchers, we understand that getting your life back on track after an accident is an ongoing process, which is why we are with you every step of the way.
