Motorbike accident victim thanks Fletchers Solicitors for taking ‘stress, mental anxiety and pressure away’

November 3, 2022

A father of two who was seriously injured in a motorbike accident has thanked Fletchers for the service he received.

The man sustained a very severe traumatic brain injury and multiple orthopaedic injuries in a road traffic accident in 2014.

He was travelling on his motorbike when a vehicle took a right hand turn across his path.

He was taken to hospital and treated for his severe injuries. It soon became clear that he was going to need support for the rest of his life. He was referred to Fletchers by his insurance company and solicitors in the Serious Injury team handled his case up to settlement in October 2018.

As a result of his severe brain injury, he was deemed to lack capacity and he was appointed a Professional Deputy to help manage his affairs. The Court of Protection Department (COP) at Fletchers then started working with the solicitors to build a relationship with him.

They now speak to him on a regular basis and help manage all his affairs, from purchasing a house to helping manage his day to day finances.

He said: “Fletchers have been amazing right from the start. They have taken all the stress, pressure and mental anxiety away.

“When you go through something like I went through, there is enough to worry about with regards to your future so knowing that someone is helping you and guiding you, is a real relief.

“In the beginning I felt very negative about everything, but I have learnt to focus on the positive now.

“I’ve been so down and I don’t know how I would have got through it without the support of Ged, Gemma and the COP team.”

There are six team members in the COP Department and they all deal with the cases so clients know that whenever they call, they will be able to speak to someone who knows them and their situation.

He added: “There have been so many times when I have phoned Fletchers and they have been able to help me and offer support.

“If it wasn’t for the team at Fletchers, I’m not sure what state I’d be in now. There have been some really dark times and they’ve always helped me through it.

“They have made situations so much more manageable for me and taken away so much stress. I want people to understand how much they can do to help.

“There was an old me and now there’s a new me that has had to learn to cope with living in a different way.

“Everyone in Fletchers has been amazing throughout my case and beyond. In my view Ged is beyond incredible; I cannot put into words just how much he has done for me.

“And then the Court of Protection Team are just brilliant. There’s so much that they do for me and they are always there for me, looking after my best interests.

“I just want people in a similar situation to me to know that although they’re going through such a tough time, there is help out there.”

Gerard Horton, Solicitor in the Serious Injury Department, said: “I have the utmost appreciation for our customer and the journey he has been through after suffering life changing injuries some 4 years ago.

“I know from experience that an individual’s life can be turned upside down in an instant. It takes so much resolve and character to have the courage to come through this. Whilst no amount of damages can turn back the clock, it can provide the tools for an individual to forge a future for themselves and their family – providing some light at the end of what can be a very dark tunnel.

“I am delighted to have achieved a result that can mark the beginning of a new chapter for our customer and his family, and send my best wishes for the future.”

Claire Barnes, Chartered Legal Executive in the Court of Protection Department, said: “Our department advises and assists people with life planning and financial management and every customer and every situation is unique. Because of this it is important to build up a really good relationship with the customer so we can fully understand their situation and their needs so we can personalise how we help them.

“It has been really rewarding for us to see the progression that this customer has made, and to build up a relationship with him and his family. We look forward to continuing to work with him.”
