My Placement – Lucy

20th August 2015

We caught up with Lucy, a placement student who has joined us from Liverpool John Moores University; she is currently studying law and has just completed her second year. With aims to be a serious injury solicitor, Lucy has chosen to come to Fletchers and complete a summer placement to gain experience with real serious injury cases.

?I have just finished my second year of University and I know the summer break is the perfect time to gain experience. I understand the importance of gaining practical experience within a firm prior to pursuing a career in law, but primarily what has drawn me into taking part in a placement at Fletchers is having time and the opportunity to discuss career paths with already established solicitors and paralegals.?

Lucy, along with our other placement students, has had the chance to spend time in the various departments within Fletchers. The structure of the work placements has allowed the law students to experience how different types of cases are conducted and how each department aims to streamline their processes and achieve results.

?My favourite seat has been in the Serious Injury Team. I enjoyed learning about how to manage the complexities of the cases. However, the part I most enjoyed is witnessing the client care aspect of the team. The file handlers run cases from start to finish, they really know their needs, and are able to build a strong relationship with their clients. This is ultimately, why I would like to pursue a career in personal injury, I want to help people.?

My Placement gives all of our students an opportunity to gain an invaluable insight into the legal profession and which area of law is right for them. They have been able to discuss options with team members at Fletchers and see how each person?s role makes an impact. It can assist with focusing and tailing their career choices.
