The Walton Centre ‘Home from Home’ 2 Years On

6th December 2016

Fletchers are proud to have been able to sponsor and fundraise for many charities over the years, and two years ago our Chairman took on a tremendous challenge to fundraise for the Walton Centre’s ‘Home from Home’ appeal.

The Walton Centre is a unique and remarkable trust dedicated to neurosciences, and in 2014 they launched Home from Home. The aim of the project is to provide accommodation for relatives to use whilst their loved ones are visiting the centre.

Our Chairman, Rob, and his team embarked on the challenge of cycling 1000 kilometres through France, from Calais to Ventoux, to raise funds for the appeal and help the Walton Centre move closer to achieving their £1 million fundraising target.  Rob singlehandedly raised £6270, and across the whole team they raised an unbelievable £34,881!

We were delighted this month to receive an update that the Home from Home project is now two years old! Since March of this year over 300 families, including people who have travelled around the world from countries such as Brazil, Portugal and Italy, have used the facilities offered in order to support their loved ones through their treatment.

The Home from Home still receives fantastic feedback on the service it provides. Recently, Ms Moore and Ms Mather, who stayed in the Fletchers Solicitors Suite, commented: ‘Thank you for making an unbearable situation almost bearable. The overall facilities put many a hotel to shame. The beds are very comfortable too’.

It is wonderful to hear how much of a positive impact the facility has had on those using it, and how much of a difference it makes. Well done to the Walton Centre for creating a fantastic facility, and here is to many more years!
