Kevan Blay, a 51-year-old man from Slough, was living a regular life before he was seriously affected as a result of a road traffic accident last year.
Whilst riding his motorcycle on the 12th March 2016, Kevan was overtaking a line of four cars when the car in front suddenly, and without warning, turned right into his path and knocked him from his bike.
Kevan was conveyed from the scene of the accident to Wexham Park Hospital and subsequently spent 14 days trying to recover from his injuries. Upon discharge, Kevan was mobilising on crutches and required a great deal of care and assistance from his parents during his recovery.
As a result of the accident, Kevan sustained multiple serious injuries such as a fractured pelvis, labral tear to the right hip joint, and ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament of his right knee. He also sustained a mild head injury and various soft tissue injuries.
After returning home from hospital, Kevan later returned to have ACL surgery to his right knee, and recently returned to hospital again to undergo a hip replacement.
During his case, Kevan was examined by a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who advised him that he would require further hip replacement surgeries at 65 and 80 years of age. The expert also advised that Kevan unfortunately has a 20% change of requiring a further knee replacement too, and that his injuries from the accident would have an impact on him being able to return to his job.
Prior to the accident Kevan had worked as a Senior Plan Technician, within a company he’d worked for since 1998. However, due to the extent of his injuries he was unable to return to work and also found himself unable to take part in many of his hobbies, such as rock climbing and motorcycling.
Nevertheless, Kevan has slowly tried to begin to rebuild his life. He is yet to return to work, but has hopes of doing so in the future. He also aims to be able to return to his hobbies in the future, once he has undergone the further rehabilitation required after his hip replacement surgery.
We acted for Kevan during his case and achieved a settlement for £285,000 gross; compensation which will secure Kevan’s immediate future in terms of having access to private physiotherapy, as well as covering the further surgery which will be required later on in his life.
Katelyn, a serious injury solicitor who dealt with Kevan’s case, commented on the settlement:
It was a pleasure to run Kevan’s case and to get him the compensation that he was entitled to. I am delighted with the result obtained for him and I wish him all the best in the future.
Kevan thanked Katelyn and Louise, who handled his case, sharing his kind words: “Throughout my case Katelyn, Louise and the team at Fletchers Solicitors have worked hard to help me to cope with the difficult time I’ve gone through these many months since my accident.
Not only have they helped to get me the right medical support, they have been very aware of the mental issues I’ve been dealing with since the accident. They were always on hand to discuss any worries I was having whether financial, medical, etc. I always felt like I was in safe hands as they always showed a personal interest in me, which has helped so much in my recovery.
I have no hesitation in recommending Fletchers Solicitors to anyone. They’re not only professional, but they really take time to get to know their clients well so as to ascertain their needs and get the help that best suits them. They are great to have in your corner as they have fought well for me, not just to get a good financial settlement, but to get me the justice I wanted for an accident that was in no way my fault.
I hope I never need their services again, but would certainly use them again if the need should arise.”
We are glad Kevan’s case has now settled and hope his compensation will help him in getting back to the life he led before accident as much as possible. We’re delighted we have not only achieved financial security for Kevan’s immediate future but more importantly got him the justice he desperately wanted after an accident which wasn’t his fault.
