Fletchers secure six-figure settlement for motorcyclist

A 25-year-old man has been awarded a six-figure settlement after sustaining life-changing injuries in a motorbike collision.

The man was working as a motorcycle delivery driver and travelling down an A road in Maidstone, Kent, when he was hit head on by a van.

He has no recollection of the accident, but it is understood that the defendant was in the bus lane behind a red light, which he ignored. The defendant crossed the claimant’s path, causing the collision, with the claimant hitting the side of the van head on.

The defendant was subsequently convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The claimant suffered injuries including:

  • Complex pelvic and coccyx fractures with appearances of pubic symphyseal diastasis and leading to ongoing lower back pain.
  • Pelvic and genital soft tissue injuries leading to significant urological issues and sexual/erectile dysfunction -scrotal haematoma, neurogenic bladder and sexual/erectile dysfunction. The claimant is suffering from numbness to his penis and various neurological difficulties.
  • Fractured skull-right base occipital fracture (no underlying injury to the Cerebral hemispheres).
  • Fractured right wrist distal radius leading to ORIF.
  • Right mid shaft clavicle fracture.
  • 15 fractured ribs including a displaced fracture on the second right posterior rib.
  • Pulmonary contusion is and small pneumoceles in the right lung.
  • Puncture to left lung and internal bleeding, leading to the need for a blood transfusion.
  • Psychological injuries, diagnosed as PTSD.
  • Surgical scarring.

The claimant was awarded a settlement of £435,711 which he is going to use to get his life back on track.
