Sam Waddington has joined Fletchers Group as Charity and Partnerships Coordinator.

Inspirational Bridlington-based man who Fletchers represented after motorbike accident joins Group

Sam joins at a crucial time for the business as the Group looks to significantly grow its network of charities and partners, and expand its presence in the northeast of England. In his new role, he will be responsible for fostering relationships with new and existing charitable causes and organisations in the area, and empowering and engaging communities.

In 2013, Sam sadly lost his leg and sustained several other serious injuries after being knocked off his motorbike by a car on his way home from work. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to hospital and placed in a coma.

During Sam’s two-month spell in hospital, doctors were unable to save his leg and it was amputated below the knee, changing his life forever at the age of 24.

After learning to live with a prosthetic limb and navigating his way through his legal claim, months of rehabilitation followed. This, along with Sam’s determination and resilience gave him a new perspective on what’s important in life and the strength to pursue his dreams. He has travelled to some far-flung places, got married and learnt to fly a helicopter!

Kirsty Thomas-Horton, Associate and Head of Charities and Partnerships says: “We have known Sam for nearly ten years now and I am over the moon he has chosen to join us in this capacity – he is a true inspiration with so much energy, determination and enthusiasm. This is an exciting time for our charities and partnerships team as we look at investing much more in good causes, community interests and making a positive impact – both through the Fletchers Group and the recently launched Fletchers Foundation.”

Sam Waddington says: “When I heard about the role, I was immediately interested. Through the years, Fletchers has been hugely supportive, friendly and encouraging and  that means a lot. I admire what they do supporting charities and good causes as a side to their legal business, and feel that this is an amazing opportunity for me to grow, progress and to give something back to the community. Hopefully others who have gone through similar trauma can relate to my story and see that with the right attitude and experience such as mine can actually be a springboard into finding your true potential. I can’t wait to get started!”

Sam is also an Ambassador for the Fletchers Foundation, an independent charitable arm of Fletchers Group whose mission it is to support individuals who have suffered life changing circumstances as a result of severe personal injury, accident or clinical negligence but are unable to seek a legal resolution.
