The incident

A 66-year-old widow has received £120,000 in compensation, after her late husband experienced a 12-year delay in the diagnosis of his kidney failure.

By the time he received a diagnosis, our customer’s husband was already at end stage kidney failure.

The case

Following her husband’s death, the retiree sought legal representation from Fletchers. The case was handled by Medical Negligence Solicitor, Georgina Tither.

The case centred around numerous missed opportunities to diagnose the patient’s kidney disease, including a failure by his GP to act upon worrying renal function tests from 2003 onwards.

When our customer’s husband was finally diagnosed in 2015, he was at end stage renal failure and required immediate dialysis.

The doctors involved in the case were investigated by the General Medical Council for their misconduct.

The case outcome

In conclusion to the case, our customer was awarded £120,000 for the pain and suffering her husband had endured.
Reflecting on the case, Georgina Tither commented:

“We were initially instructed by the Deceased and sadly he passed away during the claim process. The Defendants did not come to an agreement easily, despite the General Medical Council’s involvement and criticism of the GP care provided, meaning the settlement took longer than we hoped. However, I am pleased that an agreement has been reached and the Deceased’s wife now has some closure without having to re-live the events and treatment provided.”

On her experience, the client added:

“I want to thank Georgina for all her hard work. It felt like I was talking to a friend, especially through lockdown. She has been fantastic, I’m very happy with the service.”
