Bristol bowel surgery patients recalled for case review

Southmead Hospital in Bristol has widened its review into patients who have previously undergone controversial bowel prolapse surgeries known as mesh rectopexy amid concerns that  poor outcomes are not confined solely to procedures performed by surgeon Antony Dixon.

On Friday 6th July, the Trust wrote to a further 198 patients, advising them of their intention to conduct an independent clinical review of similar surgeries.

Christian Beadell, Senior Solicitor in the Medical Negligence team which acts on behalf of a number of patients, commented:

“This will be a concern to patients of the hospital who have undergone prolapse repair surgery and the widening of the investigation, whilst to be commended, should be followed with a full disclosure of their findings and conclusions in due to course to ensure that not patients that are affected slip through the net.”
