Louise Riley

I’m an Associate Solicitor in our Serious Injury team, specialising in complex cases involving catastrophic brain injuries. I’m passionate about supporting clients and their families, helping them rebuild their lives and achieve the best possible outcome during what can be an incredibly difficult time.

I joined Fletchers in 2009, shortly after qualifying as a solicitor, and have focused on serious injury work ever since, following a brief period in family law.

During my time at University and Law School, I always enjoyed studying subjects that offered the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. I initially trained and practised in family law but soon discovered catastrophic injury work which felt like the right fit for me.

Every case is unique and presents its own challenges, making it both interesting and rewarding. I value the close relationships I build with my clients and their extended families. When a person’s life has been turned upside down by an act of negligence, I’m proud to be able to get them get justice, secure their financial future and find stability.

I’m conscientious, combining empathy and strong listening skills with technical expertise to understand what matters most to each client to help them move forward positively.

I’m always available to offer reassurance, or to have a chat. I particularly value home visits as they help to build trust and deepen relationships, allowing me to fully understand my clients’ needs, priorities and goals.

We secured a full admission of liability for a client who had no memory of the accident and suffered torment over how it had occurred. The outcome was a huge deal to him, allowing him to move forward with peace of mind.

He was able to purchase himself a “trophy” car which he treasured and was able to return to riding – albeit on a recumbent bike. The settlement funded care to replicate the care provided by his deceased parents and have the level of financial security that he would have enjoyed if they had survived. The client survived a life-changing event, inevitably battling with thoughts about the fragility of life and huge psychological barriers, mourning the life they once had and adjusting to a new, more fragile reality.

We work closely with counsel and specialist teams to provide a collaborative, holistic service that meets and exceeds client needs.

We network extensively to ensure that we have up to date knowledge of advances in technology and recent case law. We have the breadth and depth of experience to support one another technically which is imperative given the nuances of catastrophic injury litigation.

I find my work incredibly rewarding, particularly seeing clients move forward positively after life-changing injuries. Catastrophic injury cases are complex and involve many moving parts, which makes the work both challenging and intellectually stimulating.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling and getting outdoors, whether that’s camping or hiking. I also enjoy cooking, baking, reading, and watching films – particularly ones from the 1980s. I have a fondness for the simple things too, like listening to the dawn chorus, and I even enjoy making and sampling cider.
