Cyclist suffers life-altering injuries in the peak of his retirement
The incident
Our client, a 74-year-old cyclist, was stationary at a T junction waiting to turn right, when a driver collided with him when making a turn. Our client was hit on his left leg, before hitting the windscreen and being thrown to the floor.
Our client sustained the following injuries as a result of the accident:
- Fractures of the left leg which did not fully heal following surgery
- Lacerations to the left arm
- Soft tissue injury to his right wrist
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with an aggravation of depression and anxiety
- Chronic pain and psychically limited mobility
Following receipt of our Letter of Claim, the Defendant made an admission of liability.
Court proceedings were issued in November 2021.
The aftermath
Following the accident, our client was admitted to hospital for two weeks. He was then transferred to undergo rehabilitation and referred for hydrotherapy to improve his balance, gait, and strength.
Following the accident, our client continues to suffer pain and discomfort within the left leg, impacting aspects of day-to-day activities and the enjoyment of his life.
The case outcome
In August 2023, our client accepted the Defendant’s offer in the sum of £55,000. This included compensation for his injury, care and assistance, rehabilitation, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
