Fletchers Solicitors Supporting Patients Affected by Dr. Ali Shokouh-Amiri
At Fletchers Solicitors, we are representing patients who have been affected by the actions of Dr. Ali Shokouh-Amiri. Dr Shokouh-Amiri was a partner at the Medical Specialist Group (MSG) between 2016 and 2019, working at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey.
Dr. Shokouh-Amiri was the subject of a medical tribunal that ran from 16 January 2025 to 14 February 2025. The tribunal found that he acted inappropriately on 24 occasions, including performing surgeries and intimate examinations without consent or a chaperone present. Following these findings, many patients have come to us with further concerns related to his care during his time at Southend Hospital—part of Mid and South Essex NHS Trust—where he has practiced since November 2022.
Tribunal Findings and Allegations
The medical tribunal panel found dozens of allegations against Dr. Shokouh-Amiri to be proven, including:
- Improper Examinations: Conducting intimate examinations without a chaperone present on multiple occasions.
- Unconsented Surgeries: Removing patients’ ovaries without their consent or clear clinical justification.
- Inappropriate Behaviour: Touching, hugging, and kissing patients during consultations, and inappropriate communication such as suggesting a patient join him at the gym.
While the tribunal noted that there was no evidence of sexual motivation, it emphasised that the misconduct was serious and had the potential to undermine public confidence in the medical profession. Despite his participation in professional boundaries courses and policy updates, concerns remain regarding his insight and risk of repetition.
Medical Specialist Group (MSG) Response
Dr. Steve Evans of the Medical Specialist Group (MSG) in Guernsey issued a public apology to women affected during Dr. Shokouh-Amiri’s tenure. MSG has since updated its chaperone policy to require patient signatures, in addition to the doctor’s, for cases where a chaperone is declined.
Ongoing Concerns at Southend Hospital
Since November 2022, Dr. Shokouh-Amiri has worked as a consultant at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The tribunal found no recent issues raised about his work; however, the panel emphasized that insufficient evidence of full remediation and insight meant there was still a potential risk of recurrence.
