Who am I
I’m a Partner and lead lawyer within our Group Actions team. I bring extensive experience in complex group litigation, with a particular focus on medical negligence.
I began my career in Nottingham, representing individuals who had suffered abuse while in local authority care. I was closely involved in cases against Nottinghamshire County Council, supporting survivors from Beechwood Community Home and other children’s homes across the East Midlands and London.
I also represented clients in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and acted on behalf of the claimant in the landmark Supreme Court case Armes v Nottinghamshire County Council, which helped establish that local authorities can be held responsible for the actions of foster parents.
What I specialise in
Why I do this work
I’m passionate about widening access to justice for those who have been failed by the healthcare system, or institutions in positions of trust. My work combines legal excellence with a strong sense of empathy and purpose, and I’m proud to be a leader within the Group Actions team, as well as someone who is regularly asked to provide media commentary in my area of expertise.
How I work with clients
I’m known not only for the breadth of cases I lead, but also for the compassion and commitment I show to each client. While my cases often involve large groups of affected individuals, I believe strongly in seeing the person behind every claim. I listen to their experiences, understand their goals, and work hard to secure the justice they deserve.
Outcomes
Hip replacement patient
Acting for a client who suffered injuries because of having a hip replacement that was too big. She suffered various injuries around the hip, which are permanent and can’t be rectified. As a result, Fran was able to secure a £750,000 compensation settlement.
ANON
A landmark Supreme Court case against a local council, which established the vicarious liability of local authorities for the actions of foster parents.
Mr Parker Group Action
I supported a number of people who had unnecessary surgery and treatment as part of the Mr Parker group action. Many of these clients ended with significant injuries. For one client, the compensation helped fund the purchase of a mobility car and the installation of a ramp at their home, significantly improving their independence and quality of life.
My team
I work alongside a team of genuine experts who are hugely passionate about supporting the people who come to us. Each member of the team brings their own skills, and together we are a strong unit.
