£14K settlement secured after a fall at work

The Incident 

While employed as a recovery driver, our client suffered a workplace accident. On the day of the incident, a customer needed to retrieve paperwork from her car, which was on racking in the yard. 

Our client offered to assist and used a ladder to climb onto the racking. As he navigated his way to the car, he lost his footing and fell. During the fall, his hand was punctured by the security fencing behind him, resulting in a painful penetration wound. 

The Case

• The defendant had no formal rules prohibiting employees from climbing the racking.

These findings highlighted the employer’s failure to ensure a safe working environment.

A settlement of £14,000 was successfully secured for our client, offering them a sense of justice and closure following the incident.
