A motorcyclist has received over £70,000 after he was knocked over in a hit-and-run just 800 yards from his house.

In June 2017 a vehicle pulled out of Overton Way, Essex and caused the collision before fleeing the scene.

As a result, the motorcyclist, Wayne suffered a series of debilitating injuries:

  • A right tibial fracture
  • Right-sided PCL Lesion
  • A right Clavicle Fracture

Wayne underwent surgery on his right tibia and an open reduction and internal fixation to the PCL avulsion and the clavicle.

Despite a police appeal and multiple enquiries from Wayne’s friends and family, neither the driver or the vehicle were located.

Upon discharge from hospital, Wayne required 24 hour care.

However, in April 2018 better news arrived.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau confirmed liability would not be in dispute and they agreed to deal with Wayne’s claim. They would also assist with his rehabilitation and return to work.

Firstly, Wayne went back on a phased return. He then built his confidence up to go full time.

Due to delays on the NHS, Wayne’s case manager recommended surgery on a private basis. Fortunately, the MIB funded this, too.

In May 2018, Wayne underwent further surgery for removal of the metalwork and returned to work full-time.

Serious Injury Solicitor Aimee Ratcliffe took representation of Wayne’s case. She shared her delight at the fact Wayne has been able to return to his pre-accident life.

Wayne was only 21 at the time of the accident. The injuries sustained then restricted him in terms of his work, social life and hobbies for some time.

Although there’s no trace of the third party responsible for the accident, the MIB worked collaboratively with us throughout the whole claims process which ultimately led to a great settlement for Wayne.

I am really happy that he can return to his pre-accident role at work and continue his hobbies. I hope that he is now able to look forward to the future.
