A serious foot injury after a road traffic accident
Our client was injured in a road traffic accident in spring 2004. He was riding a tricycle when a vehicle merged from a side road and collided with him.
The collision caused a serious injury to his foot. He was taken to hospital, where the wound was debrided, meaning damaged tissue was removed. Despite this treatment, the injury did not heal properly and the wound continued to break down.
The injury prevented our client from returning to work
Before the accident, our client had been employed by an engineering company. His foot injury left him unable to wear the safety boots required for his job, which meant he could not return to work.
Being unable to work also affected his emotional wellbeing. The original case records that he became quite depressed following the accident and that this hampered his recovery.
Accounting for the wider financial impact
The consequences of the injury extended beyond our client’s employment.
At the time of the accident, he had been planning to carry out renovations to his home himself. His injury meant he could no longer complete this work personally. The claim therefore included the full commercial cost of having the renovations carried out for him
£275,000 settlement secured for our client
Our specialists secured a settlement of £275,000 for our client.
The settlement reflected the consequences described in the original case, including his serious foot injury, his inability to return to his engineering job and the cost of paying for the planned renovations he was no longer able to undertake himself.
The outcome brought the claim to a conclusion while recognising that the effects of the accident went beyond the initial injury and had affected important areas of our client’s life.
