I’m a Partner leading our Platinum Serious Injury team, with extensive experience in catastrophic personal injury law since qualifying in 1996.

I’ve been with Fletchers Solicitors for 28 years, having joined the firm as a secretary in the motorcycle department. With the firm’s support and encouragement, I progressed to become one of its first partners. I now work within the Serious Injury team, where I lead a team of six representing clients who have sustained catastrophic injuries as a result of negligence.

I’ve built a strong national reputation and am widely recognised across the industry. The Legal 500 describes me as “unbelievably knowledgeable” and highlights my close collaboration with the Court of Protection team in delivering comprehensive support to clients.

Having previously led our Catastrophic Personal Injury department, I now serve as a Technical Lead in this field. Over the course of my career, I’ve secured numerous multi-million-pound settlements, including nearly £25 million in damages during 2023–2024 alone.

I’m passionate about helping clients rebuild their lives, particularly in complex cases where others have been unwilling to act. A highlight of my career was winning “Outstanding Case of the Year” in 2012 for a highly complex spinal cord injury rescue case.

I became a personal injury lawyer after seeing firsthand the profound impact an accident can have – not only on the individual affected, but also on their family. Supporting people during some of the darkest moments of their lives has given me a strong sense of purpose and responsibility.

I’m driven to help my clients achieve the best possible outcomes in challenging situations. With my experience, skill set, and determination, I’m committed to guiding them towards a stronger position than when we first met. Making a meaningful difference in my clients’ lives is what motivates me every day.

I take a collaborative and pragmatic approach when working with insurers, always focused on resolving matters efficiently and effectively. At the same time, I’m never afraid to protect my clients’ interests and will not hesitate to take a firm approach to ensure they receive the support and compensation they deserve.

Supporting clients through both the legal and rehabilitation process, and making a meaningful difference during such critical times, is the reason I do the work I do. There are certain cases that particularly stand out, especially those that have proceeded to trial. Hearing a court judgment confirm that my client was not at fault for the accident is immeasurable and incredibly rewarding.

Over the years, I’ve represented many clients, and each one of them has shown incredible strength, resilience and determination throughout their recovery. I’m always proud to have played a part in their journey and to support them through what is often one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

I’m committed to helping people who have been injured due to the negligence of others. I often meet clients at some of the most difficult points in their lives – whether in hospital or at home – and provide clear, compassionate guidance to both them and their families throughout the legal process.

What matters most to me is ensuring clients feel supported at every stage, particularly during their rehabilitation journey. I’m dedicated to handling complex cases, and I’m driven to achieve the best possible outcomes to help clients rebuild their lives after lifechanging injuries.

I remain in contact with many clients long after their claims have settled. Their lives often take an unexpected turn following negligence, and with my support, alongside the support of Fletchers Solicitors, their rehabilitation journey can continue beyond the legal process. Supporting clients beyond the conclusion of a claim is something I value greatly and reflects the lasting relationships built throughout their journey.

Jonathan Makin v Constantina Panagi (2011) – Settled Out of Court

Jonathan Makin, a 20-year-old man, had his life permanently changed by a devastating road accident. The crash left him with severe spinal fractures and a broken collarbone, resulting in partial paralysis. His condition meant he faced a lifetime of challenges, including a gradual deterioration in his shoulders and the likelihood of needing increased care from the age of 50. Heartbreakingly, his life expectancy was reduced by four years.

He received compensation of £2.2 million at the time, to support him through the many challenges ahead. Of this, £170,000 acknowledged the pain and suffering he endured. In addition, he was granted annual payments to cover the cost of his care—£25,000 until the age of 50, increasing to £50,000 thereafter—to ensure he could live with dignity and support.

David Tolley v Claire Carr and Others (2010) – Court Award

David Tolley was involved in a life-changing accident when he was struck by two cars. The accident caused a severe spinal injury, leaving him partially paralysed and reliant on a wheelchair. Although he could stand, he could no longer walk far, and every movement was accompanied by excruciating pain and extreme sensitivity below the injury site. His injuries also robbed him of his ability to work, and his life expectancy was reduced by five years. By the time he reached 70, he would require live-in care to manage his daily needs.

To support him through these hardships, David was awarded £3 million, now valued at £4.3 million. Of this, £170,000 was specifically for the immense pain and suffering he endured. This award provided him with the resources he needed to rebuild what he could of his life while ensuring he could live with dignity and support.

LN v VT v NHS Trust:

My client suffered life-changing injuries in a motorcycle accident, including a below-knee amputation, loss of use of one arm, loss of sight and a significant brain injury requiring 24-hour care. The case was highly complex, involving claims against both insurers and healthcare providers, with disputes over responsibility and three parties involved.

Due to the severity of the injuries, my client lacks capacity, so court approval was required. The case involved 44 medical experts and was ultimately settled at mediation for £10 million, securing long-term support for my client.

Newman v Broker 2018 (RPI £1,660,067):

My client, a 24-year-old man, received £1,250,000 on the basis of 50% contributory negligence for the multiple injuries, including to the spinal cord he sustained in a road traffic accident in February 2016. He was initially confined to a wheelchair, he suffered urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, and it was likely that by the age of 55 he would have to retire from his work as a chef and would occasionally require use of a wheelchair and some support.

CG v C 2020:

My client received £783,464 total compensation for the serious injuries he sustained after he was thrown from his motorcycle in a road traffic accident in April 2015. He suffered a badly broken left leg, where both bones were shattered and the wound was open, fracture resulting in numerous surgeries, possible nerve damage, significant scarring and psychological injuries resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder and an adjustment disorder.

EH v AM:

Young male suffered spinal cord damage, is wheelchair user. Suffers complexities in his everyday life and had withdrawn from rehabilitation. Liability was compromised. Settlement reached at a settlement meeting, £5.9 million gross with provisional damages.

Eastman v Coomber 2021:

A contested High Court Hearing the defendant making an application to rescind their admission of liability, two years four months after it was admitted. The defendant’s application was successfully defended. If the hearing had not been successful, my client could have had his claim reduced by 50%. The claim settled for £3 million a full liability basis.

Case Study AF:

My client at the time of settlement was a 57 year old amputee, with a shortened life expectancy, settlement £2,175,000.00, the client was able to purchase his BiOM protheses and his fully adapted accommodation during the course of his claim. His rehabilitation was undertaken through the rehab code, he was at the centre of the claim from both sides.

BL v AA 2014 (£1,363,824 RPI)

My client, a 22-year-old man, received £925,000 for the multiple injuries He suffered a severe head injury, including skull fractures and epilepsy; he fractured his shoulder, distal radius and tibia; and his capacity for independent living, which had not been high before the accident, was marginal.

Case Study CW:

The client was knocked of his motorcycle by an untraced vehicle, he suffered brachial plexus to his upper limb, head injury, C was unable to return to his pre accident employment as a mechanic, settlement £3,349,972.90

PF v SRNHS (2014)

Fully contested Interim Payment Application resulting in a £750,000.00 interim payment (Tetraplegic). This matter settled for £2,900,000.00 lump sum with £226,000.00 per annum (equating to £8.5 million)

I lead a core team of six people, and we all share the same ethos: a genuine commitment to helping those who have been injured through negligence. With over 70 years of combined experience between us, we work closely to ensure every client receives expert care, clear advice, and reassurance.

I’m a passionate biker – although I no longer have a bike. I was involved in British Superbikes for around eight years, which I thoroughly enjoyed and where I made lifelong friends.

What brings me the most joy is spending time with my friends and family, as well as with my horse, Ben. Around 15 years ago, I swapped my motorbike for a horse. I previously competed in dressage with my former horse, and with Ben, it’s very much a work in progress! But something I continue to enjoy.
