Who am I

I have over 42 years’ experience in practice and have always specialised in clinical negligence work. In recent years, I’ve focused in particular on representing clients in complex birth injury claims. I handle high-value, catastrophic cases and have secured multi-million-pound settlements for clients, helping them access the care and support they need for the future.

I’ve led on a number of notable cases, including the PTSD group action against the Ministry of Defence and the Thompstone litigation concerning the indexation of periodical payment orders, further developing my experience in complex, high-profile claims.

In addition to my individual work, my team and I won ‘Case of the Year’ at the Personal Injury Awards in 2023 for a birth injury liability trial. I was also present at the formation of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) over twenty years ago, as well as the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL).

Why I do this work

I’ve become both recognised and trusted in the specialty by experts, counsel, colleagues, and partner organisations, including charities. Over time, I’ve built strong professional relationships and established a reputation for reliability. I’ve earned the confidence of those I work with and take great pride in achieving many life-changing settlements for vulnerable individuals and their families.

How I work with clients

I take the time to fully understand each client’s story and how it connects with the medical and legal aspects of their case. Getting to know the whole family is also important to me, as it helps me appreciate the wider impact of what they’ve been through.

I always aim to work collaboratively with the opposition wherever possible, acting in my client’s best interests, with honesty, integrity and a clear focus on achieving the best possible outcome.

Outcomes

Even when cases are ongoing, I have secured substantial interim payments for many families affected by birth related negligence. Those payments allowed the families to continue with their support and therapy regimes and secure appropriate accommodation desperately needed for the children concerned.

One of my cases won the prestigious Case of the Year award at the 2023 National Personal Injury Awards.

ANON

Secured a settlement of over £10m for a young boy born with cerebral palsy. I worked on behalf of the child and his devoted parents, in a bid to secure the family’s rightful settlement and enable provisions that they desperately needed to support their son’s care. This was a tragic case which meant that the child in question was given a reduced life expectancy, as a direct result of the negligent care he received.

ANON

Acting on behalf of a family involving a birth injury case which began in 2012. The case is ongoing and trial is listed for 2023.

ANON v NHS Foundation Trust

A highly complex birth injury case, acting for a family. Achieved settlement approval for £15M following High Court mediation.

My team

My team is knowledgeable, supportive and works closely together, with each member bringing specific skills at different stages of the process to ensure our clients receive the best possible service.

What I enjoy about working at Fletchers

I’ve worked at Fletchers for nearly nine years. During that time, I’ve helped build and develop several teams, and I’ve particularly enjoyed mentoring others and supporting their growth and development.
