Types of birth injury work we take on

Birth injuries can have very different causes and consequences. Our specialists handle complex claims involving injuries to babies and mothers, as well as cases where a baby has sadly died. We’ll take the time to understand what happened, explain whether there may have been failings in care and guide your family through your options.

How our birth injury team can support you

  • Listen to your experience and help you understand whether you may have a claim.

  • Investigate what happened, including reviewing medical evidence with independent experts.

  • Consider the care, rehabilitation and support your family may need now and in the future.

Understanding more about the team

Birth injury claims can involve complex questions about pregnancy, labour, delivery and neonatal care. Our team specialises in this area, giving families access to solicitors who understand both the legal issues and the medical evidence that can be involved.

Our work is also about understanding what an injury means for a family over time. Where a child has long-term needs, we consider their future care, therapies, education, equipment and accommodation as part of the wider picture. We’ll explain each stage clearly and make sure you understand the decisions being made.

FAQs about our birth injury team

Why should I use a specialist birth injury solicitor?

Birth injury claims can involve detailed medical evidence and complex questions about the care provided before, during and after birth. A specialist solicitor understands these issues and can identify the evidence needed to investigate what happened.

Who will handle my birth injury claim?

You’ll have a specialist solicitor responsible for your case. They’ll get to know your circumstances, explain what is happening and keep you updated as your claim progresses. You’ll also benefit from the wider knowledge of our birth injury team, with more than 20 specialists nationwide.

Will you work with medical experts?

We’ll work with independent medical experts to understand the care you or your baby received and whether it met the expected standard. Expert evidence can also help us understand the effect of an injury and what care, treatment, therapies or other support may be needed in the future.

Can you help us access support while a birth injury claim is ongoing?

Where possible, we’ll look for opportunities to secure interim payments before the claim reaches a final settlement. These are early payments from compensation that can help meet immediate needs while the case continues. Depending on the circumstances, this could help towards care, rehabilitation, specialist equipment or other support.

What will happen when I first speak to the birth injury team?

We’ll start by listening. You can tell us what happened and any concerns you have about the care you or your baby received. We’ll explain whether we may be able to investigate further, what the next steps could involve and answer your initial questions. You do not need to understand the legal or medical details before contacting us.

What if I’m not sure whether there was medical negligence?

You don’t need to know if your maternity care or birth experience was negligent before speaking to us. Families often contact our team because something does not feel right or because they still have unanswered questions about what happened. Our specialists can review the circumstances and explain whether there may be grounds to investigate further.

Can you help with my child’s future care and support needs?

Where a birth injury has caused long-term or lifelong needs, understanding the future is an important part of the claim. We can consider evidence about care, therapies, specialist equipment, education and accommodation where these are relevant. Our aim is to understand what your child is likely to need throughout their life and make sure those needs are properly considered as part of the claim.

They talked me through the process and they were there everywhere there was something I needed to ask.
